Color Vision Contact Lenses
Color Vision Contact Lenses
An x-chrome contact lens is a specially designed red colored soft contact lens worn in one eye to enhance color discrimination in patients having color vision deficiency. They are also known as color vision enhancement lenses.
What is color vision deficiency?
Color vision deficiency is the loss of ability to differentiate or discriminate between specific colors. Our retina has certain substances that help in processing light and give color vision. Such substances are missing or altered in people with color vision deficiency. Color vision deficiency can be genetic or acquired. In acquired cases inability to differentiate between colors can result from conditions such as diabetes or glaucoma, environmental factors or as a result of taking certain medications.
How do these lenses work?
These lenses correct the underlying condition but do not treat it. These lenses correct red-green color vision deficiency. X-chrome lenses work by improving or enhancing color discrimination in patients having color vision deficiency thus allowing them to fulfill their occupational and educational goals which were previously not attainable.
