Scleral Lenses

Scleral lenses are large diameter contact lenses that vault entirely over the black portion of the eye (cornea) and rests smoothly over the white portion of the eye (sclera). These lenses create a smooth optical surface to correct vision problems caused by different eye conditions. Scleral lenses are filled with saline and then inserted into the eye. This saline moistens the cornea and sclera, providing maximum comfort during lens wear. Scleral contact lenses provide the highest quality of vision as compared to other lens types. These lenses are designed in such a way that they completely eliminate aberrations such as glare, haloes, shadows, double vision and blurred vision. Such types of aberrations are seen in complex corneal diseases and eye conditions such as keratoconus, keratoglobus, post-Lasik complications, pellucid marginal degeneration, severe dry eye, etc.

Scleral contact lenses prove to be most effective in complex cornea diseases where conventional treatment options like surgery, regular contact lenses and spectacles fail to improve vision. Hence corneal diseases and eye conditions of mild to severe cases can be fit and treated with scleral contact lenses.

  • Keratoconus
  • Keratoglobus
  • Pellucid Marginal Degeneration (PMD)
  • Terriens Marginal Degeneration (TMD)
  • Corneal Transplant (PK/PKP)
