Soft Contact Lenses
Soft Contact Lenses
Soft contact lenses are an excellent choice for those who need vision correction and don’t want to wear spectacles regularly or undergo refractive surgery (Lasik).
Saving and investing moneyWhat it meansSaving cash and contributing it astutely are pivotal to long haul monetary achievement. To set aside cash one must.
Soft contact lenses are mainly prescribed to correct refractive errors such as:
- Myopia (short-sightedness)
- Hyperopia (long-sightedness)
- Astigmatism
- Presbyopia
Types Of Soft Contact Lenses:
Soft contact lenses are made in two types of materials.
1. Hydrogel
These lenses are made from gel-like water containing materials called hydrogels. These lenses are very thin and easily conform the shape of the front surface of the eye. Since hydrogel lenses comprise of 70-80% water, they are very comfortable to wear. The replacement schedule for hydrogel lenses come as daily disposables, monthly disposables, quarterly disposables and yearly (conventional) lenses.
Hydrogel lenses are manufactured in two designs- Spherical and Toric. Spherical hydrogel lenses are used to correct spherical refractive errors such as myopia and hyperopia.
Toric hydrogels are used to correct astigmatism such as simple myopic astigmatism, compound myopic astigmatism, simple hyperopic astigmatism and compound hyperopic astigmatism.
2. Silicone Hydrogel
These lenses are made of an advanced soft lens material that allows more oxygen to pass through the lens and reach the front surface of the eye (cornea) as compared to hydrogel contact lenses. Silicone hydrogels are newer generation lenses that are fitted routinely. The replacement schedule for Silicone hydrogel lenses come as daily and monthly disposables only. Silicone hydrogel lenses are manufactured in two designs- Spherical and Toric. Spherical silicone hydrogel lenses are used to correct spherical refractive errors such as myopia and hyperopia.
Toric silicone hydrogels are used to correct astigmatism such as simple myopic astigmatism, compound myopic astigmatism, simple hyperopic astigmatism and compound hyperopic astigmatism.
